Taking Care of Your Toe & Finger Nails

Our fingernails are the most used part of our bodies so it is very important to keep them strong and healthy. Our nails are also a signal of whether we take pride and care about our appearance or not. If we have shabby or unhealthy nails it is often taken as a reflection in how much be care about ourselves.

The Natural Way

If you are concerned about using harsh and expensive chemicals on your toe and fingernails, there are lots of natural methods you can use.

You do not need to use harmful bleaches to whiten your nails. Instead you can add about three tablespoons of baking soda into half a cup of warm water. Allow your nails to soak in the water for 15 minutes and then using a nail brush, softly brush the nails.

If you suffer from dry or cracked cuticles these can be conditioned by applying lip balms tailored for chapped lips. You could also apply Vaseline to the affected area to moisturise them.

If you are sick of your nail polish chipping off white vinegar is a useful agent for helping the nail polish stick to the surface. Soaking your nails in a bowl of white vinegar for about five minutes will make nail polish stick for longer. It also has the added benefit of soften hard inflamed cuticles.

Health and Cleanliness

To treat mild cases of toenail fungus you can make use of normal household products. If you have a bottle of Listerine you can soak your toes in this four times daily for a few weeks and you will be rid of the fungus. The antiseptic properties of Listerine kill off all the nasty bacteria.

You will also improve the health of your finger and toenails if you trim them regularly. Any brand of nail-cutters is fine; you just need to make sure you keep them at a good length.

The difficulty with long nails is that dust and dirt can accumulate between the nails and fingers. Also if you previously used to bite your nails, your nails are likely to grow more upward than normal, meaning there is a bigger gap for dirt to get trapped. Most people use bare hands for eating and if our nails are carrying dirt then it is likely this dirt will be consumed and these germs can be very dangerous for our bodies.
